Things about New York:

• it’s loud. It’s 9:30 on a Thursday and we’re sitting on a wooden bench at 13th st & 5th ave & there’s the constant background thrum of unknown machinations emanating from hard to say where, plus traffic noise; then this massive dump truck fired up right behind us, sat running so loud we couldn’t talk until the light changed, then thundered off. In the time I’ve been typing a garbage truck came & stopped at the same red light, an ambulance sped by on the ave, and a cluster of student-types drifted past chattering loudly. This is typical.

• It’s hot.

• It’s populous.

• It’s tall.

• It’s expensive.

• It’s got all kinds…ofeverything

• Pigeons, squirrels and rats
