2025 May 17: Constitution Day

17-Mai, as it is known, is the biggest holiday of the year in Norway. It’s the anniversary of the ratification of their constitution in 1814.


It also marks the end of the two week period of partying by the graduating class of NTNU, the university in town. Finals start the following week. What?


Everyone dresses in traditional garb, variations based on the part of Norway you’re from, and there are parades. One of kids in the AM and one of everyone in the PM. Easily 1/4 of the 240k population comes out to either be in one or watch. It’s fantastic:
