On the road from Parque Nacional, the wind picked up. A front is moving through, winds sustained at 30mph+, gusts over 50.

Hunkered down at Cabaña y Camping “Los pokes” outside of Gobernador Gregores for the night. You could feel the van being buffeted through the night:

Much research & discussion next AM, Juan the van rental man recommended by WhatsApp that we divert to the east coast, bypass the infamous ‘73 malditos’ stretch of route 40 that lay ahead, so we headed south-east on route 27 to Rio Gallegos.

Stopped for a break & bite at Parque Nacional Monte León, where there are apparently penguins. Didn’t stay, but spoke with one of the rangers, who recommended our next camp: Camping Recreo “Toni Borquez”. Our second fishing club. This is probably the southern-most point of our trip:

It’s sheltered from the wind by a large sand bluff. We’re staying two nights, waiting out the front. Fortunately there’s a playground:

It’s at the mouth of a river, interesting sand formations. Kids these days, ain’t got no respect:

Sunrise on the 15th:

Leaving early the 16th, Rio Gallegos has had much resource applied to infrastructure:
