This AM we wanted to explore Barrio Puerto, the port district, the oldest part of Valparaiso.
The walk through Cerro Alegre on the way there - art museum, residents taking a break, the building housing Circular, a restaurant I’ve talked about, dunno, and a glass cube in the direction of the port:
The port district is kind of skid row. A UNESCO site, meaning they can’t improve it. The original central market was destroyed by an earthquake; the city rebuilt it, but people haven’t moved back in ‘cause rents are too high. So it’s something of an albatross:
Plaza Sotomayor, touted by the guidebooks as the center of the city, is kind of a backwater, but it hosts the HQ of the Chilean Navy, the seat of which is here:

Back up the hill to Cerro Concepción, probably the best maintained and most popular area for tourists in inner Valparaiso:
Two things you have to look past - dog shit and power wires:

Back home to Cerro Alegre:
Cerro Yungay and the top of Asenciór Reina Victoria:
Today’s super moon rise from our airbnb:
…and done. Walked 6.6 miles.
