2025 Feb #9: Move, Dennis Severs, BEST MEAL

Sun Feb 9, eviction day. David & Wendy return tonight. Tidied the flat, had an eventful bus ride involving a 20 minute wait (2x the previous longest wait), a pause and re-routing to circumvent a fire, and a temporary stop to even out the service (happens occasionally: the bus stops at a stop & a voice comes on & says the driver has been instructed to pause to even out the service. Some minutes later we start up again) — over an hour, end to end. Checked into the Ember Locke hotel in South Kensington & high-tailed it to Dennis Severs’ House in SpittalFields, got there just in time.. This is a very cool thing, look it up and make the time to go. Thanks for the pointer George Reed!

Happened to pass St John’s along the way (Fergus Henderson restaurant recommended by Kate Ferguson), booked a table for 6PM. Killed the 2 hours in a Watch House (disappointing: turns out our favorite Belsize Park cafe is a chain).
Sat down @ 6. This was the BEST MEAL of our London stay:

Had a ‘nogroni’, alcohol-free Negroni. Excellent, will make @ home. The recipe is on this page:

We had Welsh rarebit, radicchio salad & a haddock dish. How unlike me to remember, let alone write it down.
Stay tuned for Ember Locke hotel pics…it’s nice (and cheap)!
